Hello again all you guys, girls, and ghouls! Time to announce the winners for goty for 2011. I will say this was a tough choice. Their have been many good, decent games that came out making a single choice for this year winner difficult. In any case, I will now give out the award (if I had one) and the winners are. . .

These games are both winners! Why? MK was a great reboot and had a great blend of gameplay and content that other fighting games seem to miss ala Street Fighter 4, Blaze Blue, and upcoming Soul Claibur 5.
Skyrim wins because of its consistance to make improvement to a winning formula. Unlike Zelda Skyward Sword, The Elder Scroll games get better and better. Skyrim made both minor and some major improvements that made the game a real departure from past installments and gives it self identity.

REVIEW: DARK SOULS

Hello all you guys, girls and ghouls, just in time before this years end and I have a few reviews for all. First up Dark Souls! This game is kinda a sequel. I say kind of because it not a continuation of the first game.
So how is the game?

POSITIVES
･ nice graphics and visuals
･ More of a coherent story
･ mid-mission save points
･ Difficulty has been lowered a little.

NEGATIVES
･ Game is still hard as hell.
･ No motovation from lack of story
･ Enemies respawn with mid-mission saves.
･Combat is needs work

CONCLUSION
While the game is really difficult it does so in a way that keeps the player playing instead of breaking the controller. I like the first one and I feel the same about this game. I would caution gamers who want an adventure game that doesnt challenge them to look elsewhere. This is as hard core adventure rpg are gonna get and I like it.

3DS. . . FAILURE?

Hello guys, girls, and ghouls! Lets talk about how the 3DS is such a failure. First off its launch was terrible, second the price was too high, finally their was nothing to intrest consumers to buy the system.
Wait a second!?
How is the 3DS a failure? Its not as big a success as the NDS? If I remember correctly when the original DS came out all Nintendo had at launch was Mario 64 and some sorry third party titles.
Lets talk about price, DS was 199$ at launch. All it was capible of doing was playing ds and advanced games. Now the 3DS is an an more advanced portable thats more powerful than the Wii. It plays games in 3D and plays DS games. Also its able to store DLC internally and externally by means of an sd card. Oh and it has 2 cameras one that can take photos in 3D. All that is not worth 299$? Oh and lets not forget Nintendo cut the price in half several months after its release.
Now none of this in anyway intrests consumers?
Right now the 3DS is starting to pick up steam. Its a good time too with the Vita launching in Japan and later in the west. If the system is selling then in what way is that a failure? The portable is not even a year old since when did the life cycle of a system end in its first year? Lets wait at least another year before we can verbally judge this portable a failure in the same league as the Virtual Boy.

2011 Game of the Year Nominations

Hello again everyone. Time again for the game of the year awards here at WSSG! These past few months have been a crazy time for gamers. Many games came out around the same time leaving little or no time to write. Anyway here are the nominations for this years best game. Be sure to comment so you can get your favorite game an edge to win this year.

1. MORTAL KOMBAT
After years of half-ass 3-D MK games, finally we get an MK game thats far,far better than all last 3 games combined. It had a great, inguaging story mode. Reasonable online mode, tons of extra kontent and bounses. And new gameplay features too boot. What more could a fan ask for?

2. BATMAN ARKHAM CITY
Ok so I see that this game was a bit disappointing, however, its not a bad game, its a good sequel that leaves you thinking how the next game will be better. It gets a nomination for being better than its counter part even if its flawed.

3. ELDERS SCROLLS V: SKYRIM
Sure it carries on gameplay elements from the last game both good and bad, but no other game makes open world rpgs better than Scrolls. I havent even scratched the surface of this game and it gets a nomination.

4. BLOODRAYNE: BETRAYL
A great reboot to a once thought dead wasted franchise. Great animations, lots of bood and sex appeal. I look forward to more games as long as then dont get stagnet with the story or gameplay.

5. DARK SOULS
Demon Souls was a great challenging fun game that made you break your controllers and still want to keep playing. Dark Souls is no different but I will say thank goodness for no more temple hub, and stupid sages talking for what feels like forever.

No More VGAs PLEASE!

For those that have followed this blog for awhile knows Im not a fan of Spikes VGA show. Its laughable and bullshit. This year will prove no different.
With that said, I have decided not to post or comment on the show. Im just going to act like every other person with a silghtly above average IQ and pretent this farce of a video game award show doesnt exsist. Now back to Dark Souls and my ass being handed to me.

MORE FROM ARKHAM CITY

Hello guys, girls and ghouls! Just when you thought it was safe to play Arkham City I come back with more. So what else can I say about the game?

Well Im still not happy about the story. In fact the story seems worse the second playthrough. I like Jokers, and Stranges stories however, the rest seems to not go or lead anywhere. Take for instance Catwoman story, its soooo pointless. It is not even a full fleshed out story, oh it could have been with Two Face and Ivy but, no they only had 5min cameos then it was back to Batman.

The other thing that bugs me is the new game plus, it would have been nice if you had the option to make the game more challenging. For instance if you finish the game and start new game plus you get all you equipment and abblities. However, you lose the counter indecator and enemies are much stronger. So in my first finish I didnt level up Catwoman. That made my plus game really difficult see as thugs took much more health in plus game. Later as Batman I realized it was much easier for armed thugs to kill me with guns seeing as in my orginal game I was stealthy so I didnt have to level up my armor for gunfire.

Ohh and why is combat armor and gunfire armor seprate skills? I would think if armor was tough enough for gunfire then some kicks or punches would be nothing. Anyway I could keep nit picking but I dont have time to play as much cause Im trying to download dc universe which is the longest download ever and you can bet ill mention that again in my review.

REVIEW : Batman Arkham City

Hello all you guys, girls,and ghouls. Time for another review and this one was very difficult. As some of you know Im a bat-fan. I loved and enjoyed Arkham Asylum. It was the biggest suprise of that year and so close to winning goty for me.
So now its time to suit up and see if the sequel can best the best.

POSITIVES
Graphics have improved
Much bigger location
More villians to fight
Better boss battles
Improved combat
More characters to play as in challenge maps
More challenge maps
More Riddler trophies

NEGITIVES
Enemies can be too difficult at times
Story falls short at the begining and really fails at the end
Still too much back tracking
Some boss battles are point less or linier
Some controller inputs seem akward

CONCLUSION

It may seem that Im being overly critical but, that because I spoke so highly of the first game. Some issues I had can be over looked because they were new elements. While others really took the feeling of being Batman away. In a nutshell the game is bigger and better than Asylum. I love this game and can’t play anything else. Is this the best Batman game!? Yes, for the time now it is. However, I see more room for improvement that makes the next two years to wait for Arkham 3 very difficult.

Piss Me Off: Over Exposure

OK! Now Im gettin pissed off! No, really Im pissed! Most of you go to other game sites or stores. Its common that you see advertisments for new titles. However, for me its starting to get too much. Titles like Arkham City, Modern Warfare 3, Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3. I see every where on TV, online, magazines, heck even other games.
Do they think we as gamers are so starved for information on a certain game that they should post a new video or ad every week or month? Do I need a demo of one stage and later another demo just for multiplayer? Do I need to see gameplay footage of every Batman skin on the same stage fighting the same group of criminals? What ever happend to keeping things a secret or suprise?
I just like to see a teaser and offical trailers. Then maybe 2 gameplay videos followed by a demo. Thats all I need! I feel when games get too much exposure it ruins the experience in some way. Its the same with films too. I mean how much should be shown to the viewers untill they get the feeling they already see most of the movie? I like to know what you think about this too. .

Countdown to Arkham City: Arkham Asylum

We are soooo close to AC being released I could not help myself. I had to replay Rocksteady’s Arkham Asylum. Now this is not a re-review! Im just remenising about my return to one of the best Batman games out today.
It is tough where to begin, what to say that has not been said already about AA. I do remember after the first time finishing the game I had visions of what the next Batman game would be like, what it should have and what could be improved. Nice to know now during my return to the asylum that some of my wishful thinking is coming true.
It comes to no suprise that the development team at Rocksteady love the Batman mythology! Their teams goal was simple, make a Batman game that makes the player feel like Batman. They succeded and I can only hope that Arkham City shows the game business that love equals quality and quality means a bigger pay off then making something quick to get some dollars.
